Jaisalmer was established by Rao Jaisal in 1156. Jaisalmer is located in the arid plains of west Rajasthan in the midst of the huge Thar Desert. The environment of western Rajasthan is harsh, semi desert and obtains very little rainfall. Jaisalmer is also known as ‘Golden City’.The main source of water was Gadisar Lake. Its golden, sand-coloured fortifications rising out of the infertile Thar like a scene from the Arabian Nights.

PLACES TO VISIT IN JAISALMER


JAISALMER FORT-The Rajput Ruler Rawal Jaiswal built this charming Fort in 1156 CE. The fort is 1,500 ft (460 m) extended and 750 ft (230 m) ample and is built on a mount that rises on top of a height of 250 ft (76 m). The fort has an original drainage system called the ghut nali which permit for the easy drainage of rainwater away from the fort in all four directions of the fort.


PATWON-KI-HAVELI- This is the biggest Haveli in Jaisalmer and stands in a narrow street.The Patwon Ji ki Haveli is a motivating part of Architecture and is the mainly significant among the havelis in Jaisalmer. A set of five houses adjoining to each other, constructed by five Jain brothers in the first half of the 19th century.

THE THAR HERITAGE MUSEUM- This is a great place for history fanatic who will love the artifacts preserved here. The museum also hosts a puppet show during evenings. This small but appealing museum is full of artifacts from the past period such as coins, manuscripts, photographs, weapons and old musical instruments.

GADISAR LAKE- Gadisar Lake is one of the most important tourist fascinations of Jaisalmer. Opposing to the popular faith, it is not an oasis but a water preservation tank completed around 1400 A.D. by the then maharaja of Jaisalmer, Maharwal Gadsi Singh. An attractive fact about this lake is that it’s never waterless (even though it’s in the middle of a desert) as it is fed by the Indira Gandhi Canal.


SAM SAND DUNES- There is a point in Thar Desert people go there for Desert Safari. That is why Sam sand dunes are becoming the major magnetism in Jaisalmer. In the month of February/March, this whole place turns into a cultural center. The desert festival organized among these dunes is the showcase of Rajasthani culture as a whole. Sam Sand Dunes Desert Camp also provides facilities of DJ every night with cultural show with snacks & bonfire.



HOW TO REACH JAISALMER

REACHING JAISALMER BY AIR- jaisalmer airport is positioned 5km from the city and is well connected by air with New Delhi, Jaipur and Jodhpur. Jodhpur Airport is the closest domestic airport distance of about 285 km.

REACHING JAISALMER BY TRAIN- The city station is 2 km east of the city. The city is well connected by rail with Jodhpur as well as other major cities of India including Agra, Jaipur, New Delhi and Mumbai. Some of the popular trains are Delhi Jaisalmer Express, Jodhpur Jaisalmer Express, Howrah Jaisalmer Express and Lalgarh Jaisalmer Special.

REACHING JAISALMER BY BUS- Roadways and private buses connect Jaisalmer to Jodhpur, Bikaner, Udaipur, Barmer and Jaipur. It is also linked to Ahmedabad and Bhuj in Gujarat. The two main bus stands in Jaisalmer are Golden Bus Terminal and Roadways. Some sleeper buses are also available from Jodhpur and Udaipur.

Bundi is enclosed on three sideS by hills of the Aravalli Range. Bundi was formerly called "Bunda-Ka-Nal", Nal meaning "narrow ways". Later the region was governed by Rao Deva Hada, who took over Bundi from Jaita Meena in 1342, and established a princely state Bundi.


PLACES TO VISIT IN BUNDI

NAWAL SAGAR LAKE– Nawal Sagar Lake is a major tourist magnetism of Bundi.It is a huge square-shaped non-natural lake in the centre of Bundi.This Lake has a famous temple at the center. The major attraction of the lake is the reflect shape of the whole city.

TARAGARH FORT- The Taragarh Fort, other name is 'Star Fort' is the most remarkable of the city's configuration. It was built in AD 1354. The fort is a designer traveler perspective of the Bundi city.

BUNDI PALACE – The Bundi Palace is positioned on the hillside adjoining to the Taragarh Fort. This palace assembled by Rao Ratan Singh Hada between 1607 A.D. to 1631 A.D. Opening hours from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM in the summer and from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM in the winter.

PHOOL SAGAR- Phool Sagar is a non-natural lake. It is a fine planned palace that has classic Rajput structural design. The work on Phool Mahal was started in 1945 but never completed and still it is incomplete. It is an outstanding place for bird watchers, mainly from the months of November to February.

DABHAI KUND – Dabhai Kund is located in the middle of the city. It is also known as Jai Kund. It is the largest Kund in Bundi. It is well value a visit for the stunning carvings on the several steps leading down to the water level.

REACHING BUNDI BY AIR – The nearest airport to Bundi is Sanganer airport in Jaipur which is 220 km from Bundi.It is connected to all the major cities in India including New Delhi and Mumbai.

REACHING BUNDI BY TRAIN- Bundi has a small railway station in its southern part. Kota Railway Station is also nearest station from Bundi. It is only 36 kilometers from Bundi. This station is connected to many trains to Jaipur, Chittorgarh, Benaras etc.

Its  timings are 9:30 a.m. To 5:30 p.m.

SAHELION-KI-BARI- It is very beautiful and prominent garden for the tourist in Udaipur. Tourist comes to visit here mainly. Rana Sangram Singh built this garden. Sahelion-Ki-Bari means Garden of the maidens. Here we found charming flowers, fountain shaped elephants, Lotus pool. Its timings are 10:00 a.m. To 4:00 p.m.

FATEH SAGAR LAKE- Fateh Sagar Lake is a second man-made Lake named after Maharana Fateh Singh. It is an awesome lake in Udaipur. Sight seen will be incomplete without tour to the artificial lake Fateh Sagar. It’s a dignity of the city of lakes of Udaipur .Opening and Closing timings are 9:00a.m. To 6:00p.m.

Sonar Kila or The Golden Fort
The Golden Fort or "Sonar Kila", in Jaisalmer is one of the most beautiful historical monuments in Rajasthan. It is built of sandstone of the jurrassic period on the Trikuta Hill, the name derived as it is the tripple peaked hill. The majestic and magical Golden Fort grows out of a rock in an swelling sea of sand.

This grand fort in Jaisalmer is overwhelming and is protected by jagged high walls. There are four gates in the Sonar Kila known as the Akhaiy Pol, the Ganesh Pol, the Suraj Pol and the Hawa Pol.

The Sonar fort inside also has many old Hindu as well as Jain temples and brilliantly engraved havelis. The entire living area is well protected within the battlements of the fort.

You will be fascinated to see the string of old but outstanding Jain temples opulently carved and ornamented. These temples date back to the 12th-15th centuries, and are highly inspired by Indian mythology. LODURVA 


Located about 16 kms from the main town of Jaisalmer is Lodurva. Lodurva was the ancient capital of Desert City Jaisalmer and is also an important Jain pilgrimage site. Enchanting Toran or the arch at the main entrance of the Jain temple is spectacularly carved and is a piece of excellent craftsmanship. Lodurva has yet another attraction and that is the replica of the divine tree "Kalptaru".

WOOD FOSSIL PARK, AAKAL
The Wood Fossil Park is located about 17 kms from Jaisalmer is a paleontologists delight. You would be amazed to see the fossils here dating back to 180 million years. Hence the Park bear testimony of the geological past of the region.

SAM SAND DUNES
Just about one hour drive from Jaisalmer is located the Sam Sand Dunes about 40 Kms. The vast swelling sand at Sam are exquisite, and allure the tourists from all parts of the country and world. The sand dunes will change gears and shift very soon and are spread all over the place. Enjoy the breathtaking camel safari here at Sam Sand Dunes and get the first hand feel of the desert life. Sam Sand Dunes is a photographer’s delight and numerous movies have also been shothere as it is a popular site among the film makers. DESERT NATIONAL PARK
About 45 kms from Jaisalmer is located the famous Desert National Park. The desert Park is set in the backdrop of rocky landscape. The view of the shifting sand dunes and scrub covered hills is unforgettable. You can see the Chinkara Desert Fox, Bengal Fox, Wolf and Desert Cat at the Desert National Park.

Then there is Sudashri forest post located at about 70 km from Jaisalmer is the ideal place for watching the wildlife of the park. The avian population of the park is vibrant and amazing. The important birds that you can witness at the Sudashri Forest Post are Bee-eaters, Sand grouse, Partridges, Larks and Shrikes.

There are migratory breeds like Demoiselle cranes visiting the park in winters. One of the most important occupants of this park is the "Great Indian Bustard", the tall and heavy bird is the epitome of confidence and grace.

There are various varieties of reptiles like monitor lizard, spiny tailed lizard, saw scaled viper, rustle viper, krait etc.

AMER SAGAR
Just about 5 km from Jaisalmer is one of the delightful sites Amer Sagar. The lake and the beautifully carved Jain temples provide an aesthetic touch.

BADA BAGH
Bada bagh is located about 6 kms from the town of Jaisalmer. On the borders of the beautiful artificial lake surrounded by dense trees, has royal cenotaph with flamboyant carving and carved images of a former ruler on horse-back.

Moti Dungri and Ganesh Temple Jaipur

Hawa Mahal Jaipur

Think of Siberian Cranes and you will remember Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary. Bharatpur is a small tpwn located in Rajasthan very close to the Taj City Agra, Pink City Jaipur and Holy City of Mathura.  Bharatpur is an ecstasy for the avian world and a treat to the eyes for the visitors who are mostly the nature and bird lovers.

The British Officials used to visit the place for duck shooting resort. However after the Independence the Indian Government in 1956 declared is reserve for birds and later it was upgraded to National Park. UNESCO has listed the sanctuary as a world heritage site.

The Sanctuary is only about 29 sq. km but it has variety of Avian species. There are over 375 species of beautiful birds in Bharatpur Sanctuary and over 132 of them breed inside the Keoladeo Ghana National Park and nearly every year new ones are added to the list.

The highlighting point of the sanctuary is that it attracts birds from other parts of the country and abroad from places like Russia, Europe, Siberia, China and Tibet.

If you are visiting Bharatpur you must be aware of the fact that the vehicles are only permitted upto Shanti Kutir inside the park. However for the convenience of the travelers and tourists the Electra Van of forest department can be engaged in the sanctuary.

But if you are a true nature and bird lover it is always advisable to explore the park is on foot or bicycles which are available on hire. You can also hire a Cycle rickshaws. Please make sure that you do not make big noise and do not litter the place. Please keep the place clean
