Bikaner University was established in the year 2003 under the Bikaner University Act, 2003 which was notified in the Rajasthan Gazzette. The name Bikaner University was changed to Maharaja Ganga Singh University, Bikaner in 2008.
From its setting up in 2003, Bikaner University has been instrumental in imparting quality education to the students of Bikaner, near by Districts and from Rajasthan. It is also building up students and preparing them to face the further challenges. Bikaner University is fast growing and as a result today the enrolment in Bikaner University has gone up to about 2 Lakh students. The number of undergraduate and Post graduate colleges affiliated to Bikaner University have also increased.
MGSU Bikaner University is coming up with its own huge campus in the village Shrah Nathania located about 10 km from Bikaner Railway Station on Jaisalmer Road. The fully operational Campus of Bikaner will come soon on the 1127 bighahs of land. The new campus of Bikaner university is partly operational now and presently office of the Vice Chancellor of the University and other administrative offices are working from there.
