Phase 1 Temples

Rajasthan is not only famous for forts and palaces, it has numerous ancient temples which are must see. If you are planning a trip in Rajasthan then there are many unexplored places where you can visit.

The Gurjara – Pratiharas of Mandore, near Jodhpur and Jalore and their feudatories or contemperories patronized a style which is regarded as one of the major successors to the Gupta style in North India. The most significant early temples in this style can be seen at Osian, Abhaneri, and Chittaurgarh.

Osian, north-west of Jodhpur contains a number of superb temples of the 8^th and 9^th centuries, alongwith those of later periods. Among these the two Sun Temples, three Harihara Temples, and Mahavira Temple are more significant. These temples usually have decorated terrace and a graceful single – turreted spire. The multi turreted spire of Mahavira Temple is of a later period, while that of harihara III was pyramidal. The Sun Temple I is situated by the side of main 12^th century temple on the hill and is perhaps the earliest and most elegant of the lot.

This Temple and Harihara I have only a Porch in front of the sanctum, whereas the sun temple II and Harihara II and III also have Mandapas or Halls. The Mahavira Temple originally consisted of only a sanctum with a covered ambulatory, a closed mandapa, a half manadapa and a porch.

Harihara I and II show a quincunx plan. i.e four sub shrines at 4 corners with the main shrine in the center. The Mandapas of Mahavira Temple has a Pyramidal roof.

The Harshatmata Temple at Abhaneri, only a few Kms off the Jaipur – Agra highway in Dausa District, is today a sad ruin. But it must have been a magnificent structure raised over a decorated platform, itself raised over two decorated terraces. But it is very much worth a visit even now for its sensuous sculpture and splendid step – well.

The Sun (now known as Kalika Temple) and the Kumbhashyama Temples in Chittaur fort have original 8^th century features, alongwith later renovations and additions. Both stand on high and originally decorated terraces, further provided with beautiful platforms. The façade of the sanctum of the Sun Temple is especially noteworthy, so are the pillars of its halls and the ceilings of the latter rising in three levels.

Temples of Middle Phase and late phases in Rajasthan

The Kameshwara Temple at Auwa, nearMarwar Junction in Pali District and the Ranachhodji Temple at Khed near Balotra in BarmerDistrict represent the mature middlr phase of this style. The super strcture over the sanctum a Auwa is unique in Rajasthan. It consists of tiered Pyramid in the centre surrounded by tiered bunches of pediments. At khed one sees the beginning of the multi-turreted arrangement in the spire over the sanctum. The main pillars of the mandapa are of a later period.

The denouements of the Gurjara – Pratihara Style is to be seen at Kekind, south of Merta in Nagaur District, Harsha on the hill, to the south east of Sikar, Paranagar in Sariska Sanctuary and Kiradu, west of Barmer. The Neelkantheshvara at Kekind shows excellent, balanced decoration on the outer walls of the sanctum. Each face is cleverly offsetted to accommodate as many as 13 images. The spire is powerful, though still mono – spired. The mandapa has beautiful carved pillars and a rich but chaste main ceiling rising in corbelled tiers. The Harshanatha Temple shows impressive remanents. The hill top has another interesting remains also and commands a beautiful view.

At Kiradu in a deserted hill there are five temples, Someshwara being the most attractive. It has multi banded plinth.

Kajli Teej of Bundi is diverse in numerous ways - even as Teej is celebrated on the third day of the month of Shravana, in the town of Bundi it is celebrated on the third day of the month of Bhadra. The Teej festival in Bundi Rajasthan starts with the procession of goddess Teej in a highly ornamented and decorated palanquin from the stunning Naval Sagar.  The procession of Goddess goes by the main bazaars and is finally terminated at Azad Park.

The huge procession of the Goddess comprises large number of decorated elephants, camels, as well as bands, performing artistes and vibrantly dressed people. This is the time to renew the ties of fidelity for married couples in Rajasthan, and special sweetmeats, and swing rides are characteristic of it. The people who gather here from surrounding areas also get to watch and participate in the cultural programs that are organized in the evenings. It provides an opportunity to see performances by local artistes from Hadoti region.

Though the main function of Teej is held only on two days, the celebrations continue up to Janmashtami, which marks the birth of Lord Krishna

There were lots of controversies during the release of Ram Gopal Verma's movie "This is not a Love Story". The story was based on a real incident of love hatred and murder. Though the film got lot of publicity in the media but could not really attract the viewers to the theatres.

After the Mumbai Terror Attacks the news of Ram Gopal Verma visiting the Taj Hotel created lot of uproar and many eyebrows were raised that why a film maker has been allowed to visit the site when it was closed. The media speculated at that time that the Ram Gopal Varma’s visit to the Taj Hotel Mumbai may be in connection with his next venture that he may be planning.

To everybody’s surprise Ram Gopal Varma has announced now that he will make a movie of Mumbai Terror Attack. All the terrorists were killed except for Kasab and lets see to whom Ramu offers the role of Kasab in his movie.

Recently yet another story is making the highlights in all the news channels, Bhanwari Devi from Rajasthan. Mahendra Dhariwal, a producer director from Jodhpur Rajasthan has announced that he will make a movie on the life of Bhanwari Devi. Mahendra Dhariwal himself is from Rajasthan and from the same District Jodhpur. He has directed few Bollywood Movies like Maa Tujhe Salaam, Nehle Pe dehla etc and has also made some Rajasthani Movies.

According to the reports in various news channels and papers the role of Bhanwari Devi may be done by Bipasha Basu, Mallika Sherawat or Bidya Balan. Mahendre dhariwal is working on the script of Ajab Bhanwari ki gajab Kahani and once it is finalized the movie will be shot in one strectch in 40 days. Anupam Kher might play the role of the minister involved in the Bhanwari Devi case.

FINALLY THE FILM 'DIRTY POLITICS' IS TO BE RELEASED SOON STARRING MALLIKA SHERAWAT

According to reports, the director of the film KC Bokadia is surrounded by political pressure from all quarters to change the poster to a more acceptable form, especially since the using the tricolor has offended many.

The film which is slated to release later this year is reportedly based on the infamous Bhanwri Devi case. Big names like- Om Puri, Anupam Kher, Naseeruddin Shah, Jackie Shroff and Rampal Yadav will also be seen in the movie.

This is not the first time Sherawat has been seen sporting a flag in a raunchy pose. The poster of Mallika Sherawat`s 2011 film `Politics of Love` which saw the actress lying on a bed with Brian White, draped in an American flag had also sparked a controversy.
